D.O’s are Osteopathic Physicians who are fully educated and licensed to practice all aspects of medicine. The are Osteopathic Physicians who are certified to specialize in family medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, internal medicine, and all of the other medical specialties.
Osteopathic Physicians are specially trained to perform Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), a method in which they use their hands to diagnose and treat the patient, giving particular attention to joints, bones, muscles and nerves. OMT is employed to relieve pain and discomfort and, even more importantly, it assists your body’s ability to heal itself.
Physician assistants are certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) – a mark of professional accomplishment – and state-licensed. They are health professionals who practice medicine as members of a team with their supervising physicians. PAs deliver a broad range of medical and surgical services to diverse populations in rural and urban settings. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and prescribe medications.

Minor surgery is any surgical procedure that does not involve monitored or general anesthesia or respiratory assistance during the surgical procedure. Minor surgery may involve making a skin incision or the use of liquid nitrogen for cryotherapy, performed to repair skin damage or arrest disease under local anesthesia using lidocaine, marcaine or novacaine. Most minor surgeries take less than 15 minutes, but this depends on the condition being treated. Anything needing extensive excision, stitches or bleeding control may take up to half an hour or more. If you have multiple lesions we may have to treat them in multiple sessions depending on your insurance company’s “rules” and time constraints. Dr. Seretis will advise you at the initial consultation visit.
Although we prescribe pain medications such as narcotic and non-narcotic pain meds, we do not prescribe any narcotic medications or short acting ADD medication to new patients on their first visit. We only prescribe narcotic pain medications to existing patients for "acute" situations and rarely do we re-issue or re-prescribe narcotics without involving a pain management or subspecialist. Our philosophy is quite simple, we want a clean practice without having to deal with the hassels of "pain seekers." If our patient is in pain, we will do everything we can to help them manage their pain and get them out of pain. Narcotics are the most widely abused drugs in the world and we have a moral and ethical obligation to curtail this, at least when my practice is involved.
